Vibrant Culture

While we focus on academics, we are also proud of the many opportunities we provide our students to help them enjoy a wide range of learning experiences. Our music program is truly amazing. We put on a spring musical and often have more than 50 students participate. After school, we cheer on our sports teams in volleyball, cross

country, track and field, wrestling, basketball and football. We make sure art is part of student life and we celebrate student artwork with art displays and art fairs. Other after school activities include cooking, chess club, orchestra and arts and crafts.

When Clubs are ready to start, announcements are made to parents and students.

After School Groups, Clubs and Activities

Permission forms for all of our after school activities are in the school office. Most Clubs are limited to a certain number of students and clubs fill up as permission forms are turned in. For the 2019-2020 school year, we have the following opportunities available:

RUNNING GROUP - For all K-8 students, meets Mondays and Fridays from 3:00 to 4:00, 9/23 to 10/28 (no session on Otter Walk Day or on non school days). Group Advisor is Jill Walker.

MANDARIN CLUB - Grades 2-5. Meets Wednesdays from 1:30 to 2:30. In this club, students will: learn useful Mandarin phrases and vocabulary, learn to write simple characters, practice calligraphy on rice paper, draw a Chinese painting, explore Chinese culture and practice with your friends. Advisors are Mrs. Carpol and Mrs. Storm.

DRAMA CLUB - MAKE UP - Grades 4 - 8. Meets Tuesdays & Thursdays from 10/8 through 10/22, 3:00 to 4:30. The theme for the sessions will be planning your make-up for your Halloween costume, along with practice application. Important note: scary costume/make-up is OK but blood and gore are NOT! Make up will be provided for the class but students will need to purchase their own for Halloween. As part of the class, students will generate a shopping list. Advisor is Tina Palecki.

DRAMA CLUB for K-2 - will start up after Winter Break. Advisors are Mrs. Montgomery and Mrs. White.

BOARD GAMES & CHESS CLUB - Grades 2 - 5. Limit of 30. Meets Mondays 10/21 through 11/18 (no meeting 11/11), 3:00 to 4:00. GREEN TEAM - Grades 3-5. Meets Tuesdays, 3 to 4:00, 10/22 thru 12/10. Limit 10 students. Students will be investigating school-wide practices with an eye toward making them greener. They will learn about sustainability and help educate other students (and staff!) on these topics.

PEP CLUB - For K through 8. Meets Tuesdays 3 to 4:00, 10/8 through 11/5. The pep squad's main duty is to promote school spirit. Pep squad members make posters and cheer for school sports teams. During games, pep squads lead cheers and chants, and exhibit good sportsmanship. The 5 weeks of Otters Pep Club lead up to the basketball season and we plan to meet as a group to cheer on our basketball teams. Pep Club Activities include: defining and learning how to exhibit good sportsmanship, creating pep cheers, pom-pom making, poster making, face painting, gym decorating and more. Advisor is Mrs. James.
