Members of the Assistance League of Bend will be here at Three Rivers this Thursday, October 22nd during the Grab and Go Meal times - 11:30 to 12:45.
Their event is called Operation School Bell and they're working to help meet the essential needs of students. They'll be out front in their red aprons (and face masks and gloves) ready to greet you at the curb and offer free socks and underwear.

Author Visit! - Don't miss the upcoming virtual sessions with author Patrick Carman. He joined us here at school last year and was a huge hit! These sessions are sure to be another great experience for our students.

TUTORING OPPORTUNITY – LaPine Park & Rec is partnering with Bend LaPine School District to provide families access to the internet with a qualified tutor on site to provide homework assistance. For time slots, go to lapineparks.org/studyhall Students in all grades are welcome. All students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. No student may be dropped off for an unsupervised reservation.
10/1/2020 - OTTER WEAR READY TO PICK UP
Our Otter Wear is here and it looks great!!!
If you ordered Otter Wear from the online store, you may pick it up tomorrow (Friday 10/2) between 11:30 and 12:45 (same time as Grab and Go so be sure to grab meals, too). We'll have staff out by the curb for the drive by.
Our kindergarten, 2nd and 3rd grade teachers already had packet pick up sessions planned today (Thursday 10/1) - if your child is in these grades and ordered Otter Wear, your teacher will have it ready during packet pick up times (Grade 2/3 is 11:30 to 12:45 and Kindergarten is 2:30 to 3:30).
For anyone who misses the drive by times, you may stop by the office to get yours.

9/29/2020 - DELAY IN RETURN TO HYBRID
As you know, we had expected to begin in-person instruction for our K-3 students at Three Rivers School on October 5th. Unfortunately, because of a recent increase in Covid-19 numbers within Deschutes County, combined with metrics set by Governor Brown and the Oregon Health Authority, we must postpone these plans.
Our district will be monitoring the situation weekly. The earliest we could return to in-person would be late October, but only if the health metrics improve. You can find more information on the district's Return to School webpage. In the meantime, teachers and students will continue with comprehensive distance learning and remain on the same schedule we are currently using.

9/16/2020 - REPORTING AN ABSENCE
Until further notice, please report an absence only if your student will not be engaged or participating in any of the student's remote learning on a particular day. Please use this email address to report your student absences: [email protected]

Automated absence calls and emails will begin on Monday (9/21) -- these messages will be generated and sent out automatically at 11:00 a.m. daily to parents of students who show an unexcused absence from the previous day.
9/14/2020 - FIRST DAY HELP
We've heard from several of you this morning with a variety of issues and concerns. Here are a few tips and reminders that may help.
Students with an iPad from last spring need to follow these steps to get their iPad ready for the first day of school:
1) Open your iPad and turn it on. Charge if necessary.
2) Check your settings for available updates. Do any available updates. (Allow time for this. It can average 10-30 minutes to complete updates.)
3) Check your Wi-Fi connection. Does your VPN work? If not, go to Self Service and re-install Global Protect. After you install it, re-start your iPad and check the connection.
4) If you forgot your password, or still need tech assistance, please call 541-355-8700. Make sure to leave a message with a clear name and contact information.
Email is best (format is firstnam[email protected]). If you are calling their classroom phones, please be sure to leave a message so they can return your call at their earliest convenience.
Unfortunately, we are experiencing many troubles with WebEx this morning. The District is working on the problems and we hope to have it running smoothly soon. There is no fix at the moment - we'll let you know once things are running again.

Use StudentVue to see your class list. Join your class Webex sessions - middle school teachers will be focusing on helping all middle school students learn about navigating in Canvas.

9/11/2020 - BE READY FOR MONDY - FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
Here are some friendly reminders for this last weekend before school starts.
First on the list is our message that we are here for our students and families – this next week will not be a hard start. It will be a soft start to get everyone settled in, answer questions, build confidence and make sure pieces are in place to move forward successfully.
Here are a few other items to be thinking about:
9/2/2020 - WELCOME TO ALL OF OUR FAMILIES
We are excited to get the 2020-2021 school year underway! We know it will be challenging, but it is our hope that we are moving in the direction of a hybrid model for at least some of our students in the near future.
That said, you should have received an email from the school district with sample schedules for the elementary and middle levels. Being a K-8 school with some teachers we share across all grade levels, we needed to make a couple of minor adjustments. Middle School parents should have received an email from Three Rivers on Monday detailing what the day looks like for our 6th-8th grade students. Parents of K-5 students can expect to hear from your child’s teacher next week with a detailed daily schedule.
Here are some other important details for our families:
Every student in the school will have an iPad this year. The District has placed the order for iPads for our K-2 students but we do not expect those to arrive by the start of school. We will be in touch as soon as they arrive and will work to get them to you promptly. Third grade teachers are currently getting their student iPads ready and will be reaching out to their families regarding distribution. For all 4th through 8th grade students who are new to this school district, we hope to have your iPads ready next week and will contact you directly to coordinate getting them to you. All other returning Three Rivers students should have their iPads from last year and be ready to go. Be sure to contact us if this is not the case!
We highly recommend purchasing iPad insurance. Inevitably, things happen and the cost to repair a cracked screen or replace a machine is expensive. Insurance provides some peace of mind since your child will be handling it daily. The insurance is $30 for the year and can be purchased online. Learn more HERE. Class Lists and Middle School Schedules
Class lists for grades 1 through 5 will be posted on the school doors Friday, September 4th at 4:00 pm. At the same time, middle school schedules will be able to be viewed on both Student and Parent Vue. Kindergarten parents will receive an email on Tuesday 9/8 letting you know your child’s teacher.
Meet Your Teacher Events - Mark Your Calendars
As we make our best efforts to keep students and staff safe, we’ve decided to have a drive-thru “Meet Your Teacher Event” in the pick-up / drop-off lane in front of the school. All families will need to remain in their cars when they pull up to the appropriate staff member, and we ask that you wear a mask once you roll down your windows. Our schedule is below. If showing up at the time allotted for your family does not work, we welcome you to come during the other hour of the Meet Your Teacher Event.

This week, we received the very good news that the summer meals program is being extended through December 2020. Once we hear the details on how this will work, we will be sure to share that information with you.
Free and Reduced Meals
Even though students will not be in the building as we begin the school year and even though the meals program has been extended, we encourage all families to take a moment to fill out a Free & Reduced Meal application for the 2020-21 school year. Part of the Oregon Student Success Act includes expanded income guidelines for qualifying for free meals. APPLY HERE or stop by the office for a paper copy. You can save $725-$800 per child a year if you qualify for free or reduced priced meals, which includes breakfast and lunch. All grade levels are included. Each year, our District office mails out a Family Handbook to all of our families. That publication has been delayed due to the need to update it with current information. Families can expect to receive their Handbook some time during the month of September.
School Office Hours
We are currently open 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday (closed Labor Day). Once school starts, office hours are M-F, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Stop by and see us or give us a call if you need a hand with anything or have questions. Masks and social distancing are required in the school lobby.

Now that our office and admin staff are settling back in, we’ll be emailing our usual Otter News updates a few times a month to help keep our families informed on what we know. We’ll also be posting these same updates on the website under the picture of Webster the Otter. If you miss an email, check Webster for the latest news. We know there is nothing normal about the start of this school year, and we miss you all very much!
If you will be a new Otter at Three Rivers this year, you are probably already working with our Registrar, Jill James.
