Why Middle School Counselors?

Middle school students are characterized by rapid physical growth, curiosity about their world, and an emerging self-identity. Middle school counselors enhance the learning process and promote academic achievement. School counseling programs are essential for students to achieve optimal personal growth, acquire positive social skills and values, set appropriate career goals, and realize their full academic potential.

Social and Emotional Lessons

The Middle School Counseling Program is designed to address the academic and developmental needs of all students through classroom guidance lessons. These lessons include the following topics:

  • Organization Skills
  • Understanding Self and Others
  • Coping Strategies
  • Peer Relationships and Effective Social Skills
  • Communication and Problem Solving
  • College and Career Awareness
  • Multiculturalism and Diversity
  • Anxiety/Depression/Suicide
  • Grade Level Transitions
  • Mindfulness

Over the course of the year, students will receive lessons from our counseling team covering a variety of topics that will be split into six week sessions. Within each session, each grade will focus on that topic from a different lens. Sixth grade will focus on Community, 7th grade will focus on Relationships, and 8th grade will focus on Identity Development.
