Article Date: Sep 13, 2018

Dear Realms HS Families,

We have had a great start to our school year and our "Dis-Orientation" was an awesome success. We have laid the foundation for a strong community of learners, and look forward to building on that foundation throughout the year.

Below are a few photos and watch our Instagram or Facebook page for more images and video!

Please read carefully through this whole newsletter - there is lots of important info in here!

Best wishes,

Roger

THE ANNUAL FIELDWORK CONTRIBUTION: As many of you know, we are committed to powerful learning experiences beyond the walls of the classrooms, and this "fieldwork" as we call it, is a critical component of Realms High School. At the same time, in order to be able to fund fieldwork at Realms HS, we must raise over $20,000 this year!! The first step in that effort is make your annual fieldwork contribution here. We encourage all of our families to support your student's fieldwork this year by making this contribution. Click here to pay.

10th Grade Permission Form: Friday September 21st

CAMP TAMARACK - AN EXCELLENT YOUTH LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY!

On Friday the Camp Tamarack (Director Charlie and "Squirrel", the youth leader coordinator) team spent at Realms HS sharing information about the student leader program at Camp Tamarack with a collection of interested Realms students. We are excited to build a strong partnership with Tamarack and are excited about the opportunity our students have to spend a week up at Tamarack helping teach and lead a cabin of 5th graders during Outdoor School.

Many of our students are interested and some have already completed their application. Some things we want parents to know:

  • We support this leadership experience for our students
  • Helps fulfill a Realms HS student's required service hours
  • Additional HS elective credit possible - Jen Rule, our college and career manager is on it
  • Students WILL be expected to make up at least most and possibly all of their missed school work
  • if you are unsure if your student is a good fit for this experience, call us and we'd be happy to advise.
  • more information and an application for the program here

CURRICULUM NIGHT - MARK YOUR CALENDARS

We are excited to share information about our curriculum, our assessment system, and other details that will help you effectively navigate the potentially tricky role of "supportive parent to a new(ish) high school student". You'll have a chance to rotate through stations and classrooms focused on our academic subjects, learn about some of the most important EL Education structures, meet the teachers, and ask all your questions. We hope ALL of you will join us - Thursday September 27th at 5:30pm.

BRINSON SKATE CLUB!

Want to skateboard and/or scooter at lunch at Realms HS?

Thanks to efforts by our friends at Skyline HS our students can ride at lunch. ONLY students who have this waiver signed by a parent (and a helmet!) will be able to skate/ride. Once students have their waiver turned in they will be given a "Realms HS Skate Club" sticker for their helmet and then will be eligible to skate/ride
