Good morning Golden Eagles and families!

This has been a wonderful week at PCMS. We saw students complete art projects using beautiful examples of value gradation, evaluate and enhance personal narratives, begin to dive into research writing, and share and connect more with teachers and one another in class. It is a great time to be a Golden Eagle! Here are some things to be aware of as we move into the new week:

  • Grade Updates: On Wednesday of last week, all families should have received notification if students had a current D or F in the class. As I described last week, this provides a good opportunity to reach out and make a plan for success moving forward. As a result of this messaging, we had floods of work being turned in and several students reaching out to connect during office hours! Moving forward, we encourage all students and/or families to do the following:
    • Make a weekly plan to check grades. When there are trouble spots, reach out to meet with the teacher and make a plan.
    • Do not wait to contact the teacher! Even if you don't know where to start or are not sure what questions to ask, reach out! Each day you fall behind makes it harder to move forward and make a plan. It also is hard to trouble-shoot when frustration and difficulty is high. We want to problem-solve with you and are ready to help!
    • If you notice that there are several areas where you need support, it may be beneficial to reach out to your counselor. Because we are all operating far away from one another, it is helpful to give us insight as to what you think the barrier might be for you. For example, some students struggle due to organization, others due to technical glitches, others due to not understanding the actual content, while still others have difficulty with the volume of work. All of these barriers require different solutions so when you can help us understand your personal situation, we can better support you going forward. In future weeks, we will likely be reaching out to you to ask for your input regarding this question.
  • PCMS Swag for Sale: We will resume Golden Eagle Spirit Fridays with prizes for the most spirited Advisories! Our PCMS Online Store is now open to purchase Golden Eagle swag. We have extended the deadline to purchase until Sunday 10/25. Swag will be available for pick-up by 11/16 or sooner. Click here for swag promo video!
  • Tech Help: If you need help with any tech problems or Canvas questions, please join Mr. Curfew in his webex room on Wednesdays from 11:30-12:00. (https://bls.webex.com/meet/dan.curfew)
  • Clubs!!:
    • HERE are the clubs that are currently available for students. As of now, there are only a few. Remember, at PCMS, clubs are by students, for students so if you have an idea for a club, please talk with a teacher to see if they can be an advisor, complete this form, and we can begin! If you'd like to join a club this week, simply contact the advisor or show up in the webex group.
  • Upcoming Calendar Items:
    • This Friday during Advisory, we will have a school-wide assembly. It will include info about our school and upcoming events. See your Advisory teacher for more information!
    • During this time of the year, many students are excited about upcoming dress-up days and lots of questions arise about costumes. To make sure you are in-line with our school expectations, use THE PCMS COSTUME FLYER as your guide. Please ask if you have any questions!
    • Around the world, fall represents a time for many types of celebrations. Below are just a few:

I hope you and your family are able to spend some time in the fall leaves and maybe even pick up a pumpkin or two this week. Thank you for continuing to do your best each day! Our PCMS community is strong and there's no place I'd rather be!

Go Golden Eagles!
