Dear Pacific Crest Families,

It is my pleasure to welcome everyone to the 2019-2020 school year. I hope all of your summers were filled with sun, fun, and the making of great family memories. We are anxiously awaiting working with your student(s) this year and look forward to ushering in our new 6th graders - class of 2026! Pacific Crest is a place where identity and relationships are foundational to living and learning in a caring community. We are excited to work with you and your child as we provide high levels of learning, care, and inspiration during the middle years. Let the 2019-2020 school year begin!

This letter serves as an overview of important dates and documents during the next couple of weeks. This letter, dates, and documents discussed can also be found on our website at Please get in the habit of checking this site as we will continuously add documents and calendar dates to it throughout the year.

In order to minimize families taking time off work and standing in long lines, we will not be having an official kick-off day. Instead, students will receive iPads and PE uniforms during the first few days of school. In order to make this successful, families must pay for iPad insurance and PE bundles online before the first day. This allows our first few days to go smoothly and students to easily get the materials that they need. Attached to this letter is Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) and iPad Insurance Form. All students must bring both forms with them on the first day of school and deliver it to his or her humanities teacher. iPads will not be issued without signed AUP forms. The $30 annual payment for iPad insurance should be paid via our secure online payment portal, TouchBase.

Although we will not have an official kick-off day, we know that students are anxious to see their lockers and find out where their classrooms will be. On Tuesday, August 27th from 4:00-5:00 pm, our doors will be open for a family ice cream social. Walk the hallways, find your locker, meet new friends, connect with our parent organization (PCCO), and say hello to staff members before our year gets underway. If there are any critical schedule changes that need to be made, this is a time to request them with our registrar. Student schedules will be accessible through ParentVue prior to this date and a separate communication will go out when date is confirmed.

Directly following this, we will have a new parent boot camp in the gym. All new families are requested to attend. This event will run from 5:00-6:00 pm and will cover many school-wide practices and procedures that will be helpful for you to know as we move forward this year. You will learn about parent evenings, student pick-up and drop-off practices, iPad practices, and behavioral and learning practices at PCMS.

On September 3rd, incoming 6th graders will be welcomed to our community as part of WEB day. Where Everyone Belongs (WEB) is a program to create and deepen connections between students. This program pairs 8th grade students with incoming 6th graders in an effort to make our new students feel connected as they transition to middle school. This is just for incoming 6th graders and will run from 8:45 to 12:45. You can either drop your student off or transportation will be providing busing. For busing, students will be picked up at their regular school stop at their regular pickup time and will be dropped off at their regular stop after the event. This information can be found here: This will be a great opportunity to learn about PCMS and get a head start before the first day of school on the 4th.

Any new 7th and 8th grade student also has the opportunity to join this day; however, they will begin at the same time and end much earlier at 10:00. They will need to be picked up by family on this day.

Our athletic programs are open for enrollment! This year, football will be beginning early (August 26th) and other fall sports are right behind. Participation in sports provides learning opportunities that are different from that of the classroom. It is a great way for students to learn about perseverance and teamwork while being active. Visit our website to enroll and pay close attention to the three steps needed (1) online registration complete, (2) current physical on file, (3) participation fee paid online, to be ready to practice and compete on day one. Additionally, we are always looking for volunteer coaches and parents to support. Please contact our Athletic Director if you are able to share your time and talents with us!

Finally, we have a big shift this year with a change in our school hours. Our new hours will be 8:45 – 3:40, with a 2:00 early release on Wednesdays. This is a district-wide change for all of our secondary schools and was done in large part due to research on teen sleep needs. You can read more about the decision here:

We are so excited to meet and welcome you and your student(s) back to school at Pacific Crest Middle School this year. If you have any questions or need support, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at school. Our office is open for customers!
