Taking Geography Education To New Heights!

MVHS has so many super star teachers among's hard to keep up!

One to highlight this week is Mr. Brant Mellor. Mr. Mellor was recently awarded the 2016 GEO Grades 9-12 Educator of the Year Award by the Center for Geography Education in Oregon. Wow!

Did you know that Mr. Mellor has....

  • Taught AP Human Geography since 2002
  • Served on the C-GEO Steering Committee since 2010
  • Identified and mentored other AP HG teachers around the state
  • Offered Dual Credit with Chemeketa Community College in Cultural Geography (4) and Economic Geography (4)
  • Engaged in community outreach involving geography education with the the cities of Redmond and Bend
  • Presented to the Head of Bend's City Planning Department with his AP HG students
  • Assisted with the Summer Institute in Bend, OR

In addition, Brant has participated in professional development around the world:

  • Asian Institute Trans-Mongolian Railway from Russia-Mongolia-China, Field Studies Program for 16 days in 2013
  • Korean Studies Work Shop for American Educators in 2011
  • Seoul, South Korea on the first territorial geography education program in 2009
  • Cultural Study participant through the Oregon Geographic Alliance in Bangor, Wales in 2001
  • Was a recipient of the Fulbright grant to promote cultural awareness in Cambodia and Thailand in 2002
