Well played!

Off to outer space!

New Miller Money Art Contest

We are looking for a new look for our Miller Money. Outside each wing on the bulletin board is a container with small pieces of paper the size of our money. Draw your idea on the blank side in black only (pencil, pen or marker) then write your name and teacher on the back side. Bring it to the office. There will be a great prize for the winner! All entries are due this Friday morning by 8 am!

Last year's Miller Money. This year we are looking for a student design. Enter for a great prize!

Wednesdays are Miller Days!

On Wednesdays please show your school spirit by wearing our colors, blue and green, or Miller Wear. A new round of Miller Wear will be for sale soon!

Fridays are "Overall" Days at Miller (thanks to Miss Home!)

Wear overalls or comfy clothes on Fridays to celebrate having an "overall really great week!"

Miller Focus

Social and Emotional Learning

For the months of September and October we will focus on kindness. Being kind to others, helping where we can, and being kind to ourselves as well.

Community Service

Thank you for donating jerseys, shorts and soccer balls. We will continue to collect these through this Friday. For the month of October we will be collecting warm socks to support people without homes. "Socktober" is the time to bring in warm socks for children and adults. There will be bins at the front and back of the school.

Teaching new staff and students and reminding returning staff and students about taking only what we need, recycling, using less, reusing and composting.

Thoughts on our Drop Off, Pick Up and Crosby Drive

Thank you for your patience as we all navigate the road closures around our school, especially when it comes to allowing our buses into traffic lines. Our bus drivers are working on a tight schedule to get our students dropped off and then be at their middle and high schools on time. They are very appreciative when drivers let them in the line of cars!

As we reflect on our current traffic pattern where drivers take a right as they exit the front parking lot, we have noticed less gridlock in that area. We would like to encourage this traffic pattern in the future when all roads are fully open as it allows for our drop-off and pick-up lines to move much quicker. When all roads are open you will be able to drive away from school on Crosby/Northwest Crossing, Elwood, Skyline Ranch Rd, and all the off-shoot streets from there!

Vision Screening

Vision Screening for our students will be taking place on October 6, provided by the Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation (OLSHF), along with local Lions and parent volunteers. Details below.

OLSHF uses a harmless, digital photo-screening device called a SPOT to conduct screenings. The SPOT captures detailed information from a snapshot of your child’s eye, and objectively checks for vision problems. This results in less error, especially among children who do not speak English as a first language, are pre-verbal, shy, hyper-active, or face other problems in a traditional screening environment. With these screenings, OLSHF detects vision issues in 17% of children, helping them access vision care needed to succeed in the classroom – low-income families are also eligible to receive help through OLSHF’S KEX Kids eyeglass program. Early vision screenings can save the long-term vision of children who unknowingly suffer from amblyopia, a degenerative eye condition that affects 5% of children screened. OLSHF plans to screen over 175,000 students across Oregon this year, helping students get the vision assistance they need to facilitate better learning and development. If you receive a Spot referral, from the School Nurse, it is recommended that your child visit an eye care professional. Questions please call 541-355-6938. If you have questions regarding the SPOT Photo Screener, please contact [email protected]

Please contact Meredith Blackwell at 541-355-2501 if you can help. Thank you! Please note: It may take weeks for your application to be processed.

I offer a Maker Space during lunch recess for grades 2-5. It's a fun and creative environment that requires lots of supplies to make it awesome. If you have a crafting closet/area that could use a little weeding out, please pass on the goodies to us! Just drop it by the front office or send to the library with your kiddo. Items I can always use are glue-sticks, stickers, card stock, beads, buttons, fabric, cardboard tubes, yarn, string, etc. Please don't purchase anything! Just send in what you have. Thanks in advance!

Team sign-ups begin next week, Monday, October 3! Students in grades 3-5 are welcome to join. The ideal number of team members is 4, which turns out to be 4 books per team member.
