Welcome Miller Families!

I will be emailing this bi-weekly newsletter to all Miller families this school year. I will put any new items at the top and will keep some information in each of the newsletters for your reference. Please be sure to scroll all the way down so you get to the PTO section. If you need a paper copy of the News From the Den, please call the office: 541-355-2500.

PE Letter to Parents

Please read the letter from our new PE teacher, Monet Biancucci. It is attached in the email. And it is 100% my fault you are getting this late. I'm so sorry!

iPads - No Insurance Needed

  • We will not be selling iPad insurance for elementary students this year. If something happens to a student's iPad the district will take care of it. Please talk to your student about the importance of using the iPad only for school work and to be gentle and careful while using and storing the iPad.
  • For the most part, iPads will stay at school. However, teachers may send them home if students are working on a project or need extra practice on certain skills. Please allow your student to use the Bend - La Pine Schools iPad for school work only.
  • iPads are used during the school day for a variety of school work. All students will use their iPad for Lexia, a reading program that allows students to work at their own pace/level. And for Dreambox, that does the same thing but for mathematics. Older students may use their iPad to read, complete work, turn work in to the teacher and get feedback on their work. Paperless!
  • We do keep an eye on the amount of time students are looking at screens. Wonders, our reading program, offers reading books so students can choose to read from a book instead of reading on the iPad. Individual teachers may vary in the amount of time on iPads. Please contact your teacher for that information.

  • Miller Does For Others

We will be collecting soccer jerseys, shorts and soccer balls during the month of September. Look for red bins at the front and back of the school for drop off. These items can be new or gently used. Thank you! Next month is Socktober - we will be collecting warm socks for those who need them in our community.

    Important Dates

  • On Tuesdays at 10:00 am, I will be offering tours of our school for potential Miller families.
  • Parent Conferences will be Wednesday, October 19 and Thursday, October 20. Times TBD. No school on Friday, October 21.
  • Breakfast/Lunch at School

  • Please be sure your student knows what the plan is for breakfast and lunch. The district will not turn away a student who needs breakfast or lunch even if that student does not have money in the account to cover it. Someone will contact the parent or guardian and ask that funds are added to the account.
  • ParentVue Account

Make sure that you have a ParentVUE account. Call the office if you need help: 541-355-2500. https://www.bend.k12.or.us/district/organization/p...

    Volunteering at Miller

Some teachers will want parent volunteers, others will not. You will get an email from your child's teacher if they are interested in having volunteers in the classroom, for field trips or special celebrations. You can also offer to volunteer in the office or library. The office will need parent volunteers to help with: Vision Screening, October 6, Dental Screening October 12 and 13, and Picture Day October 27 (2 parents). Please contact Meredith Blackwell at 541-355-2501 if you can help. Thank you!

    Visiting Miller

We will have some visitors at Miller for educational reasons. At this time, we are not inviting parents into the school to visit classrooms or have lunch with your child.
