A Few Reminders...

If Your Child is Staying Home Due to Illness:

Please be sure when you notify the office of the absence that you include the symptoms your child is having to help us with possible COVID cases at our school. Thank you. Report An Absence: 541-355-2500 or email: [email protected] prior to 9:00 am.

Area Change Requests for 2021-22 Due March 1

If you are at Miller on an ACR you do not need to submit a new one each year. If you are interested in going to a different school within Bend - La Pine Schools that is not your home school, the ACR is due March 1. New kindergartner students have a due date of May 1. School Pictures in April

  • On April 19th Kindergarten, 1st grade, and half of 4th and 5th grades will get their pictures taken.
  • On April 20th 2nd grade, 3rd grade, the other half of 4th and 5th grades will get their pictures taken.
  • Unfortunately due to the tight schedule, there will not be a picture re-take day or class composite photos available.
  • More specifics to come ASAP.

Library Book Check-Outs: It's so fulfilling to see so many students wanting, "holding," and reading Miller library books. Please encourage your student to consider our books when deciding on the next book to read.

Our standard policy is 2 books/student at a time. If someone "holds" more than 2 books at a time, a variety will be chosen for the check-out. When books are returned, the other holds in an account are fulfilled. Usually only one book in a series is checked out at the same time.

Delivery of the books to the classrooms happens every afternoon. If your child is in hybrid (4th/5th graders) and you want the book(s) on a non-cohort day, please email Cathy Brimacombe at [email protected] and I will bring the book(s) to the office for parent pick-up. The 2nd-5th graders have been taught how to use the "Destiny WEM" app on their ipads to hold books. If you want to put holds on Miller books using a personal device, follow these instructions:

  • Go to the Miller website here
  • Choose the Academics tab
  • Choose Media Center
  • Under the picture, choose “Online Catalog”

You can either use the catalog in this format by searching for a title, author or keyword OR you can go to the "Catalog" tab and then choose "Destiny Discover" from the left margin. That will take you to the same platform/format that the students see on their iPads.

You must log in under the student’s username and password to hold (order) books. Once in the Online Catalog, click "Log In" at the top. Click on the Blue Bar that says "Bend LaPine or SAML SSO." Enter your student’s username and password. The student username is usually firstnamelastname and the password is a jumbled 6-character combination of letters and numbers. If you don’t know these, contact Cathy Brimacombe at the above email address for help.

Family Access Network (FAN) provides an advocate at Miller to help families access services that improve children's lives. You are welcome to contact our advocate by texting Heidi Odman at 541-728-2084.

They serve delicious, plant based superfoods in juice, smoothies, bowls, and toast. Just mention you are there to support "Miller Elementary" when you order and Fix & Repeat will donate a percentage of your purchase back!


Save the date for our next event at Big Story, Central Oregon's biggest independent bookstore and locally owned by Miller's own Heim family. Plan ahead to join us on the weekend of March 12-14!

The Miller PTO supports Miller Elementary with programs, events and supplemental funds, all designed to enrich our children's experience at school. Looking ahead, we will be seeking help in the following positions:
