Bend-La Pine Schools' Board of Directors Meeting Schedule:
Regular Board Meetings are typically held on the second Tuesday of each month during which regular business is completed, actions are taken and public comment is received.
Work Sessions are typically held on the fourth Tuesday of each month during which the Board engages in discussion on key Board work and initiatives.
Doors open to the public 15 minutes before the start of the meeting. Unless otherwise noted, meetings are held in the Boardroom of the Bend-La Pine Schools Education Center, 520 NW Wall Street, Bend, Oregon.
The Board of Directors values public input. The role of the Board of Directors is to actively listen to and reflect on public comments. Each person wishing to address the Board must sign-up individually for Public Comment period on the agenda. A sign-up sheet will placed by the board room entrance and each name will be called upon by the Board Chair.
Public Comment allows the Board and Superintendent to hear issues of interest, but does not allow an opportunity for dialogue between the speaker, Board, or Superintendent. The Board may ask staff to follow up on public comments or questions raised during the public comment period.
The guidelines below for public comment emphasize respect and consideration of others:
The Board Chair will accept in-person public comment in the order in which it was received, will monitor speakers to ensure they are within their two-minute limit and ensure subject matters do not exceed the maximum minutes per topic.
Speakers should begin by stating their name, city of residence, and schools within and/or Alternative Learning Programs (ALOs) operated by BLS that their children attend, if any.
Each person providing public comment will have a total of two minutes; when your time is up, a buzzer will sound. The Board respectfully asks that you conclude your comments at that time. Taking more time reduces others' ability to provide public comments.
Comments should be respectful and directed to the board as a whole; inappropriate comments and behavior will not be tolerated. The Board Chair has full discretion over the Public Comment period.
If an interpreter is required, please notify the Board Clerk at least 48 hours in advance.
Public Comment at Any Time:
The Board of Directors values your input. Constituents are encouraged to submit questions, concerns, or kudos via the School Board Listening Post on the Board Member contact page at any time. All members of the Board will read and review your correspondence.
