Article Date: Mar 12, 2025

At Mountain View, Mr. Mellor teaches Modern World History and AP European History. He also facilitates the College Now program with Central Oregon Community College.

When Deputy Superintendent Lisa Birk and I surprised him in his classroom with the Champion for Students award, it was clear he makes a great impression on his students. Here are a few of the things students shared.

"Mr. Mellor’s a great teacher because he gives back what you put in."

"He helps you understand how you can get college credits in high school, guiding you through the process. He’s supportive of our college endeavors."

"He’s a fair teacher and gives everyone the same amount of respect."

Brant’s nomination came from the College Now Program Coordinator at COCC, Erika Carman, who said this: "COCC is fortunate to have Brant Mellor teach for the College Now program at Mountain View High School. … Brant’s contributions are an example of the positive impact our partnership with Bend-La Pine Schools continues to have."

Mountain View Principal Michael Hicks added, "Brant is an exceptional educator who strives to create an educational environment that allows his students to see the world around them from multiple perspectives. Students appreciate Brant’s content knowledge and his ability to make complex learning accessible and relevant. Brant models life-long learning by continuing to expand his expertise by attending and presenting at various conferences, and traveling abroad with and without students. Brant works closely with community colleges to articulate his courses and provides high school students with the opportunity to earn college credit."

In recognition of Brant Mellor's exceptional success in teaching Mountain View High School’s College Now classes, where he engages students with real-world experience and provides them with an early start on their college journey. His dedication continues the growth of our partnership with Central Oregon Community College and creates invaluable opportunities for high school students to pursue their interests and goals.

At Bend-La Pine Schools, we deeply appreciate his contributions and are proud to count him among our Champion for Students.
