Bend-La Pine Schools presented its Educator of the Year award this morning to Lauren Miller, an exceptional Learning Specialist at Cascade Middle School. Please join us in congratulating Lauren as our 2024 Excellence in Education certified staff honoree!
On behalf of Lauren, representatives of MidOregon Credit Union presented Cascade Middle School with a $500 check.
In a presentation with Superintendent Steven Cook, Cascade staff, District administrators, School Board directors and members of Lauren’s family, Dr. Cook shared why she was selected for this honor:
Lauren is a standout leader and advocate for students who is full of creativity, compassion, and a commitment to inclusive education. What makes her truly exceptional is her unwavering dedication to full inclusion for special education students. She’s a leader in implementing innovative models that ensure students receive individualized instruction within the general education setting.
Her collaborative spirit is evident in her partnerships with teachers across disciplines, as she works to align math, reading, and writing goals to meet each student’s unique needs. Her work not only supports students but also breaks down silos, fostering shared learning and mutual respect within the school staff.
Her colleagues describe her as kind, hardworking, and relentless in her commitment to helping every student reach their potential. Her impact is clear: Students consistently meet their IEP goals and often exceed expectations. Families and colleagues alike know they can trust Lauren to be there for students, and she’s deeply valued as a partner in learning.
Lauren’s journey with Bend-La Pine Schools began as an educational assistant, where she discovered her passion for helping students with diverse learning needs. Encouraged by her mentors, she earned her teaching license and has since made a lasting impact at Rosland Elementary, La Pine Middle, and now, Cascade Middle School.
Lauren values the Cascade staff for being a supportive community that helps her continue growing as an educator, and her gratitude for the relationships she’s built here shines through in her work.
Her dedication to her students extends beyond academics. She celebrates their resilience and growth, and takes pride in seeing them thrive through leadership opportunities in programs like Unified Sports.
Lauren, you inspire us all with your commitment to inclusion, your ability to connect deeply with your students, and your relentless pursuit of their success. Cascade Middle School and Bend-La Pine Schools are truly better because of you. Thank you for everything you do, and congratulations on this well-deserved recognition.
