Congratulate March's Champion for Students: Michael Chavarin from La Pine Middle and High Schools!

We were lucky enough at this week's School Board presentation to be joined by the student who nominated him for the Champion for Students Award: Caylee Adams, a junior at La Pine High School.

Michael has taught in our district for nearly 16 years, all that time in La Pine, and he wears many hats:

  • Choir/Band/Musical Director for La Pine Middle School
  • Choir/Band/Musical Director for La Pine High School
  • Head Cross Country Coach for La Pine Middle School

Caylee stood in front of the School Board and guests to share why Mr. Chavarin is a Champion for Students. She said, "Mr. Chav is a large reason why some of our musical art students even appear at school. Over my 6 years of being in Mr. Chav’s choir classes, he has taught me perseverance, patience, self confidence, and above all else, that I am capable of anything. He is unbelievably encouraging in the classroom and truly wants us to be the best students and singers we can be. I would not keep returning to singing if it wasn’t for him."

La Pine High School Principal Scott Olszewski shared, “Mr. Chav has a perfect balance of approachability and authority. He is passionate about music and education more broadly. He is also a lot of fun!”

From La Pine Middle School Principal Brian Barringer: “Mr. Chavarin is very passionate about serving his students. Being at the Middle school and High school he has the ability to impact a student's experience from sixth grade to senior year. His love for music is evident and you can see it when he is teaching students. We are very lucky to have Mr. Chavarin in our building.”

And we’re lucky to have him teaching in our District. Thank you, Mr, Chavarin, for being a Champion for Students!
