As construction continues at the new high school in southeast Bend, plans are underway for bond projects at schools throughout the district – including Juniper Elementary School, High Desert Middle School, Amity Creek Magnet at Thompson, Bend Senior High School and Pilot Butte Middle School.
Construction is going full steam ahead for the new 267,000 square-foot two-story high school in southeast Bend. Crews are currently pouring foundation, going vertical with block walls, creating the orchestra pit and more. The school will include approximately 60 classrooms, a 600-seat auditorium and athletic fields.

A new master plan for Bend Senior High School has been developed - the first phase of which will be built with funds from the 2017 construction bond. Schematic designs for phase 1 are done with construction slated to begin in summer of 2020.
The new two-story stand-alone structure will include four academic classrooms with a large flexible multipurpose space designed to be able to host meetings and International Baccalaureate testing.
Master planning for Bend Senior High, which was built in 1955, started in April 2018 and includes teachers, office staff, additional staff members, the principal, a board member and other district-level administrators as well as BBT Architects. The team’s vision statement for the new master plan is “creating a welcoming, accessible, and safe learning environment while maintaining strong traditions of relationships, collaboration, innovation, and excellence."

A new 8,500 square foot auxiliary gym will be constructed at High Desert on the southeastern corner of the building. The project will also include energy-efficient LED lighting throughout the school, a secure lobby, ceiling mounted projectors and new bleachers in the main gym. Construction is slated to begin in summer of 2020.
Design development is continuing for the project, which will include a new multipurprose space. The existing gym will serve as the school’s new cafeteria. Kirby Nagelhout was selected as contractor for the project, which is slated to begin in spring of 2020.
The school, which was built in 1949, will receive its first comprehensive modernization. The interior will be modernized and the school will receive a new roof. Seismic upgrades will also take place, funded by a grant.
R&H Construction was selected for the project, which is currently in design development. Construction will begin in the summer of 2020.
