Cascade Middle School's Matea Haugen has a big goal: to inspire her sixth-grade students to love math.

She does this by banishing rote memorization and busy work and instead focusing on team work, debate, collaboration and deep understanding. Take a peek inside her classroom and you'll see why she was named Bend-La Pine School's Teacher of the Year for 2016.
