Deadline for Attendance Area Change Requests
Families may opt to send students to schools other than their neighborhood school. This option allows families to select a school that is convenient for transportation or to access a specific program available at a neighborhood school outside of their attendance area. Families must submit an Attendance Area Change Request. Download an application and learn more about this policy.

Read Across America Activities
Many schools are participating in events related to Read Across America, an annual celebration of Dr. Seuss and his work. (Participating schools include, but are not limited to: Juniper Elementary School, Three Rivers School, Pilot Butte Middle School, Rosland Elementary School and La Pine Elementary School.)

Cat in the Hat Night at La Pine Elementary School
Hundreds of students, parents and staff members will be on hand during the biggest school event of the year, as the community celebrates Dr. Seuss’ birthday and Read Across America.

This is a showcase of STEM-related activities (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) for parents and students.

Seussical The Musical at Mountain View High School
Drama students perform this lively, musical tribute to Dr. Seuss. Tickets are $10 and the show is open to the public. Performances will take place at 7 p.m. March 3-4; 2 p.m. March 5; and 7 p.m. March 9-11. March 5. Mountain View High School will also host a special shortened performance for 600 elementary students from students from throughout the district on March 7.

First Friday at Mountain View High School
During lunch time on the first Friday of every month, Mountain View High School’s leadership students host a special event to highlight the wide range of student activities and clubs available at the school. Student musicians perform, art students display and sell their artwork and culinary students make appetizers for students to try. The commons area of the school is always packed for this fun, interactive event.

Classified Employee Appreciation Week
This week our schools celebrate our classified employees. These include our front office staff, accountants, bus drivers, custodians, maintenance crew, nutrition services workers, IT support and more! These employees are invaluable to our schools and we take time to honor their contributions during this week.

Thousands of students at Bend-La Pine Schools partake in the annual Battle of the Books competition, in which students are asked to read books and answer trivia questions about those titles. During the first weeks of March, many schools are hosting school competitions to determine a building-level winning team. Those teams advance to the regional finals at Sisters Middle School. (At some schools hundreds of students compete on dozens of teams.)

Oregon State Geography Bee in Portland
Two Bend-La Pine Schools students have qualified to attend the Oregon State Bee National Geographic Bee. This is a huge honor! The two representatives from our district are Juniper Elementary School’s Ella Roseborrough and High Desert Middle School’s Caroline Weed.
