Every International Baccalaureate Diploma candidate completes a group project that has something to do with either creativity, action or service. Five Bend High students decided that they wanted to support all of the Type 1 Diabetic students at Bend High and Sky View Middle School by putting together boxes full of emergency sugar supplies for 125 classrooms.
The students raised the money to buy all of the supplies and then put together the boxes. One of the students has a sister who is a Type 1 Diabetic and there are times when her blood sugars can drop unexpectedly. The boxes are there for students if they find themselves in an emergency blood sugar situation and don't have any sugar with them or cannot get to the nurse's office. The boxes could also help in a lockdown or lockout situation.
