Exceptional Efforts by Maint. Crew

Staff Worked All Night to Open Schools

Article Date: Dec 16, 2016

Thank you to our outstanding Maintenance Department crew, who worked all night to remove snow from our schools! For the second straight night, these dedicated staff members worked 12-hour shifts through the night clearing snow from parking lots, bus lanes, parent loops, driveways and more.

We appreciate the hard work and effort this 16-member crew put into to clearing snow from our 30 schools and other sites and facilities. Wow!

Thank you also to our custodial staff members who worked hard to clear snow on walkways and at building entrances.

"I am proud to work alongside such dedicated individuals, who were willing to work all night so that our students and staff could come to school. My heart-felt thanks go to our maintenance crew for their truly outstanding efforts," said Superintendent Shay Mikalson.

While our staff members worked hard to clear more than a foot of snow from our facilities, winter conditions remain. We encourage parents, staff, students and community members to use caution:

  • Remember the weather changes quickly, so keep in mind that surfaces may change.
  • When possible, use the handrails as necessary, both up and down stairs.
  • Try to "walk like a penguin" — walk flat-footed, take short steps, walk with arms at your side and concentrate on balance.
  • Drive slow.

Thank you to all our community members for your support!
