Wilderness Experience Connects to Novel

After reading the novel "Hatchet," the fourth-graders at Amity Creek Magnet at Thompson School got a first-hand taste of what the main character experienced. The book follows a 13-year-old who survives alone in the wilderness.

The fourth-graders spent a day in the woods near Skyliner Lodge learning to construct snow shelters and build fires. This hands-on experience brought the learning alive for students.
