Curious about what it’s like to drive a school bus? Community members interested in a job as a school bus driver are invited to an open house recruitment event at the Bend Bus Yard from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 21. During the event, potential drivers can step aboard a bus and take it for a drive and watch our award-winning drivers showcase their skills during hourly bus road-e-o demonstrations.
“Bus drivers for Bend-La Pine Schools are paid competitive wages, have flexible schedules, receive excellent benefits and help contribute positively to our students and schools,” said Transportation Director Denice Blake. “These positions would be a good fit for college students looking for a part time job with benefits, for parents who would like summers off or for anyone who would like to be part of an incredible team dedicated to ensuring student safety in a fun, positive way.”
Individuals do not need to have a commercial driver’s license to qualify. Those interested can receive training to obtain the license and the school bus certificate. By applying now, individuals can spend the summer training and be ready for the 2016-17 school year. Those in training will be paid $11 an hour; permanent bus drivers make between $16 to $23 an hour.
The bus yard is located at 501 S.E. Second Street, Bend. For more information about working for Bend-La Pine Schools visit www.bend.k12.or.us/district/jobs
