Meet Pilot Butte Principal Candidates May 23

Public Invited to Weigh in on Next PBMS Principal

Bend-La Pine Schools is hiring a principal at Pilot Butte Middle School.

Parents, students and members of the community are invited to meet the principal candidates during a forum set Monday, May 23 at 6 p.m. in the school’s library. Attendees will be able to interact with the finalists and provide feedback to the hiring committee.

Current principal Michael Hecker is leaving Pilot Butte to pursue new adventures in Colorado. The new principal will start July 1.

The four finalists for the position are:

Jim Crist is currently the principal at Ridgeview Elementary School in Springfield, a position he has held since 2008. He has more than 20 years of experience in education including five years as a middle school health and PE teacher and as an assistant principal at the middle school level in Springfield.

Stephen DuVal is currently the assistant principal at Cascade Middle School in Bend, a position he has held since 2012. He has 9 years of experience in education including four years as a middle school science teacher in Beaverton.

Craig Harlow is currently the principal at Ash Creek Elementary in Independence, a position he has held since 2013. He has 21 years of experience in education including 11 years in principal positions in Oregon.

Steven Stancliff is currently the assistant principal at Ridgeview High School in Redmond, a position he has held since 2012. He has 11 years of experience in education including time as a teacher in the International Baccalaureate program at Redmond High School.
