Juniper Elementary School
Welcome to the Juniper TAG 4th and 5th Grade Self-Contained Classes
In the Bend-La Pine Schools' self-contained talented and gifted (TAG) classes, acceleration and appropriate level of instruction are key to successful student growth for all students. Additionally, building their confidence as students and scholars are important for enhancing student achievement and positive self-esteem. The students in the 4th and 5th grade self-contained classes are highly capable all day, every day. Thus, all instruction is modified and differentiated to meet their rate and level of learning needs. Student’s social-emotional needs are enhanced through their new peer group. Many students develop life-long friendships with others who share their interests and hobbies.
Although housed in Building-A, near the Music and 1st grade classrooms, our TAG program is a full-inclusion program, where students do all the same activities as other 4th and 5th graders. For example, recess and lunch are at the same time as the other 4th and 5th graders. It is important that all students experience social interactions with all students at their grade levels and with peers. Friendships don’t just exist in the self-contained TAG classrooms, but are school wide, and we want to make sure those opportunities exist.
