Dear Highland Families;
It was an absolute pleasure to welcome your children back to school this week. Our students and staff are busy establishing the routines that make the individual classrooms and the entire school function so smoothly and I must say they are doing with, not just grace, but style. The benefits of our blends at the upper grades really stand out during this time period. In each class the olders are taking the lead and influencing their younger peers with confidence. It’s so much more than learning rules or when to sharpen a pencil or use the restroom. Working with the teacher, our students are creating an environment for shared learning and most importantly caring for one another. Making this happen is both art and science and although our teachers do it with such ease, I know it’s not easy and I know they put a ton of work into it. Thank you to our Highland Teachers!!
Families, next week will be the first full week of school and for so many of our younger and even some older students this will be a big deal, especially after these past two years. Do not be surprised if your children are experiencing some big emotions, dysregulation or all out fatigue. It’s a good idea to plan for some extra down time in the evenings and weekends to help them during this period of adjustment.
Next week we all shift our Kindergarten students to the back of the school for drop off and pick up, so we can expect another change to that routine. We will continue to concentrate our Kinders and 1st grade families toward the Southwest corner (near the four-square courts) with some signs to help make connecting earlier in the afternoon. Over time we can remove the signs as our patterns get more established. Thank you to everyone helping with this adjustment. I hate to see you close outside of the fence, but I cannot thank you enough for your support and cooperation.
Take care and enjoy your weekend,
