Principal’s Letter

Dear Highland Families;

I am looking forward to seeing everyone at Bike Night tonight! Please be sure to keep a good eye on your kid(s) and come up with a plan if you get separated (i.e meet at wall ball wall or stairs). It is an easy event to lose sight of your kiddos and it can be a little scary when they can’t find you. Thank you PTO and especially Paul Hewes for all your work on this event. It’s going to be fantastic.

I also want to say thank you to the PTO for the upcoming unplugged week events. As we finish up our testing weeks with more than a fair amount of learning screen time, it’s super healthy to have their free time filled with non-screen activities. I know both the student and parent-response to our PTO Speaker Series guest, Dr. Hicks, was incredibly well-received. She provided some really solid information to support healthy limits during free time and I was really impressed with how open our students were to hear this information.

Speaking of screens, it’s just about time to start the iPad roll in process. On June 11th we will be collecting the iPads, cords, and bricks (chargers) back from students. Each year we do our best to ensure these items are clearly labeled, however when they come home they can sometimes get mixed in with your family device cords and chargers and labels wear off. Please do your best to locate these items. If you can’t find them, reach out to your child’s teacher. Please see the note below for more helpful information.

Bucks for Bikes Fundraiser!

Mrs. Eriksson’s first grade class is doing a fundraiser, with Roots and Shoots, associated with their storyline. They are raising money that will go toward purchasing bicycles that will be given to people in need in Africa. The organization we are working with is called World Bicycle Relief. Each bicycle costs $147. We are trying to raise enough money to purchase 5 bicycles. Students are asked to participate by bringing in coins and/or bills. At the end of the fundraiser, the class that donated the most will receive a small prize! If you go to the World Bicycle Relief website you will find some videos of how bicycles help change people’s lives! We also have an account called The Red Bike (Click to Donate to the “The Red Bike” fundraiser/team).
