Principal's Letter
Dear Highland Families,
Let’s start by expressing thanks and gratitude to two wonderful women who have provided support, learning and love to our Highland community. Deb Douglas and Linda Whitley will be finishing out these final weeks and retiring on to bigger and better things. While they will be missed, we wish them all the best in retirement and look forward to seeing them around in the coming years as they enjoy their time. Thank you to everyone - students, staff and parents - for your displays, acts and statements of appreciation.
As we say farewell to Ms. Douglas and Ms. Whitley, please join me in welcoming one of our newest team members, Elizabeth Meskill! Ms. Meskill will be taking over the office secretary position in the fall and we are thrilled to have her join us.
We held our last assembly today which is always a little bitter, sweet. As usual, we had an eclectic collection of “acts” for this assembly, but one of the most notable was the oh-so-serious send off to Ms. Park as she prepares to head to Rome, Italy for a couple years. If you were not able to witness this live artistic expression, please ask your kids to describe the experience - I am sure it will create some laughter. I only hope the students enjoyed it as much as we did!
Enjoy your weekend and brace yourself for a quick ending to the year.
Sincerely,
Brian Kissell
Happy retirement Ms. Deb!
Enjoy retirement Ms. Whitley!
Thank You
You made a difference! Highland Elementary School raised $11,891.88 for Taylor and his family. Thank you for your generous, thoughtful donations for our precious sparrow!
Yearbook
Yearbooks will be available to purchase by cash or check in the office on Monday, June 12. Yearbooks will be sold on a first come first serve basis and, unfortunately, we may not “hold” any books without payment. Books will be sold while supplies last.

District Message
The community is invited to celebrate the groundbreaking for Bend-La Pine Schools newest elementary school in north central Bend on Monday, June 11 at 1 p.m. The new 600-seat school, which is slated to open to students in the fall of 2019, is one of two new schools that will be built as part of the 2017 construction bond passed overwhelmingly by voters one year ago. The groundbreaking ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. at the corner of Cooley and OB Riley roads. Students from High Lakes Elementary School will offer a musical performance for visitors. The more than 70,000 square foot energy efficient school is modeled on the architectural designs for Silver Rail Elementary School, which opened in 2015. It is a two-story design with 24 classrooms, an open commons/cafeteria area, a dedicated gym and collaborative spaces for instruction. Learn more about this and other bond projects on our 2017 Bond webpage.
