Principal’s Letter

Dear Highland Families,

I hope this newsletter finds you all in good spirits this Friday afternoon. I was fortunate enough to start off the day with a little country music dance session with the kinder team before the kids arrived. I cannot think of a more fun way to start the day! I highly recommend it.

Summer is right around the corner and we can all feel it. Believe it or not, this can be stressful for both students and adults. The change that comes with the transition from school to summer does impact our thinking and our behavior which can sometimes make us behave in a more emotional manner to any triggering events. It’s not a bad thing, but it helps to know it’s happening in all of us at some level. Just being aware of it can help us manage it a little more effectively for ourselves and our kids.

Speaking of summer...nothing says summer in Bend like SUP paddling on the river or the lakes. I feel like every other car going by my office is strapped with a board. I may see you drive by soon. There is a great paddle board, from Stand on Liquid, in my office waiting to ride on your car and hit the water! Raffle tickets will be on sale just a few more days (Wednesdays and Fridays) after school at the back of the school before our June 1st drawing. Proceeds will support our teachers heading to Slovenia this summer for the International Storyline Conference. Don’t miss your opportunity!

The all-school BBQ is next week and this a great opportunity for our community to get together and enjoy some burgers and hotdogs picnic-style on the field. I look forward to seeing you there. Please try to be aware of your child’s class time to get in line. We will do our best to move the lines as fast as possible, so thank you in advance for your patience.

This weekend holds a special place in my heart as it is the anniversary of when I first brought my entire family to Bend when making the decision to move here. Just by chance, we stayed at Hampton Inn and got our first glimpse of the Pole, Pedal, Paddle which pretty much solidified our opinion that this is the best place on Earth!!! For a recoving amaeture triathlete, this event was like a tractor beam and the pull was too much to resist. I look forward to seeing the community come together with such a fun event.

Have a great weekend.

Sincerely,

Brian Kissell
