Principal’s Letter

Dear Highland Families;

Even though we are nearly half-way through January, I would like to start by wishing you a very happy new year.

We are going to Mars!!!

Our community launched into the 2018 school year learning with some serious fun this week! As you probably already know, we are getting ready to leave for Mars and we are extremely excited to make this journey and put our boots on the red planet. There are soooooo many questions to explore! Today our commanders received official orders, via their class robots, with the location on the planet they will inhabit. There is a lot of work we have to do to prepare for the journey and life on Mars. Keep asking your children about the story - the novelty and anticipation is a huge component to Storyline. The fact that this is a new school-wide Storyline extends that anticipation to parents (and staff) as well.

Thank you, staff and parent volunteers, for all the work going on behind the scenes to make this storyline happen for our children.

Quick Construction Update

I am not sure if it is the lego-nerd in me or visualization of progress on the building, but the building block walls went up this week and really changed the scene for the better. The psychological impact of this progress is really nice. The foundation wall and slab will be completed over the next few weeks and then you will see the walls start to form with the roof soon to follow. The construction crew is working rapidly to reduce the dust during the dry times, and the mud during the wet times, so we should start to see the site cleaned up fairly soon as the drainage work is coming to a close. Once again, I want to thank all of you, parents, staff and students for your patience and understanding while we deal with the mess.

Be safe, be happy and be good to yourself and each other.

Sincerely,

Brian Kissell
