Principal Candidates Forum
Parents from the Highland community are invited to attend a public forum to learn more about the finalists for the Highland principal position. You will also have the chance to give input and feedback about the finalists. The public forum will be on Thursday, April 2, starting at 5:00 p.m. in the Highland library.
Magnet School Enrollment Lottery -- We greatly appreciate your interest in Highland School and the Scottish Storyline method of instruction. Application forms for the 2015-16 school year are now available in the Highland office. The application deadline is Friday, March 20 Here are other important dates:
Tuesday, Feb. 10 -- enrollment information meeting in library, 6 to 7 p.m.
Friday, Feb. 13 -- school tour, 1 to 2 p.m. (RSVP requested)
Wednesday, Feb. 25 -- enrollment information meeting in library, 3 to 4 p.m.
Friday, Feb. 27 -- school tour, 1 to 2 p.m. (RSVP requested)

Volunteer Application -- The school district's process for conducting volunteer background checks has been in place now for two years. Volunteer approvals are valid for two years. This means that volunteers who submitted applications in the new system two years ago are due to renew their volunteer approvals! The volunteer application form is only available online --

Reminder About School Hours! -- School hours are 9:00 to 3:30 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. School hours are 9:00 to 2:00 on Wednesday (students are dismissed early to provide professional development time for staff). Morning half-day Kindergarten hours are 9:00 to 11:40 except on Wednesdays, when students are dismissed at 11:00 a.m. If there is a delayed start due to inclement weather or other reasons, the school day starts at 11:00 a.m. There is no morning Kindergarten on delayed start days.
Open Gym -- Highland again offers Open Gym for the 2014-2015 school year. Open Gym is offered before school from 7:30 to 8:30 and after school from 3:30 to 4:30 except on Wednesdays. There is no Open Gym on no school days and no morning Open Gym on delayed start days. You can print out the 2014-15 registration form and Open Gym FAQs on these links (here and here). These forms will also be available in hard copy in the Highland office on/after August 28.
Highland School Climate Survey -- One of Highland Site Council's five-year school improvement goals is to conduct an annual school climate survey. The survey is designed to solicit feedback from Highland families about key aspects of the learning environment at our school. Site Council will use the survey results to help assess progress towards school improvement goals and to identify future topics for discussion and focus. Stay tuned for the spring 2015 survey.
