Welcome to Highland Magnet School at Kenwood !
Highland is a magnet school devoted to the Scottish Storyline method of teaching. Our school's educational program focuses on strong fundamentals in reading, writing, math, social studies, and science. In Storyline, these skills are developed and reinforced within a rich tapestry of experiential activities.
Your child may be a detective searching for clues to solve a mystery, live in a medieval castle overrun by rats, walk into a school hallway misted in fog with desks turned over and debris everywhere in the aftermath of a San Francisco earthquake, or prepare food for a new restaurant about to open. The imaginative Storyline themes are countless and your children will experience two or three major storylines each year that will enliven, engage, and inspire them to apply their academic knowledge and skills in real and practical ways.
As a parent, you'll be thrilled to see your child coming home eager to share all the exciting details of what transpires during their current Storyline. As an educator, you'll be awed by the way Storyline incorporates instructional best practices of differentiation and interdisciplinary learning into each and every school day. As an administrator, you would be proud, as I am, of the impressive academic gains made by Highland students as evidenced by our Oregon Report Card grade of exceptional the last three years and having achieved Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) every year according to federal guidelines.
The Highland parent volunteer community is extremely active. You'll find parents helping out in classrooms throughout the day, working on PTO projects, and serving on Highland's School Site Council. We encourage the adults (parents, grandparents, etc.) in our community to share their skills and talents as your schedules allow. We are very proud of our school and our pride is evident as soon as you walk through the doors. So come join us! A new school year adventure is about to begin…
