Then and Now

Welcome to Pilot Butte Middle School in Bend, Oregon. We have a rich history that includes a replica log cabin of Bend's first classroom. Our school was built in 1967 with a layout similar to a college campus, in a park-like setting, nestled at the base of Pilot Butte. In 2008, our school received an extensive renovation, thanks to the Bend community, that includes a new building with state-of-the-art technology, large-scale landscaping, gymnasium updates and upper-field amphitheatre.
We have over 620 students and 60 staff members. Our mascot is the "Giants," and our school colors are green and white. Our feeder elementary schools are Bear Creek, Buckingham, Ensworth, Juniper, and Pine Ridge.
Currently, we are very excited to be in the candidacy phase of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme. The Middle Years Programme is an internationally-recognized curriculum that encourages students to make connections with the real world, and to become critical and reflective thinkers. Our entire student body will be a part of this programme and will benefit from the increased level of rigor, and from the balanced, comprehensive curriculum.
Our focus this year also includes literacy (reading, writing, speaking and listening), and staff professional learning communities, which involves application of research-based highly-effective teaching practices.

I encourage you to explore all of the informative links on this site and feel free to contact us if you have any questions. Thank you for your interest in Pilot Butte Middle School.
