Welcome to High Lakes Elementary School!
It is truly my honor to be the principal of High Lakes Elementary School. I have been at High Lakes for thirteen years; 4th grade classroom teacher for one, VP for five and principal for seven. I also have over ten years experience as an intermediate classroom teacher in several school districts.
At one point in my career I left the field of education and was in computer sales for over a decade. I believe my successful experience in the business world has given me a unique perspective for the administrative position that I now hold. I serendipitously came back to the field of education over twenty years ago and I know that I am right where I am supposed to be, doing exactly what I am meant to be doing in life. I feel so fortunate to have been given this opportunity to be the leader of this fabulous school and working in a progressive school district.
High Lakes has a long history of being rated an "exceptional/outstanding" school by the Oregon Department of Education. In 2013-14, when High Lakes was compared to elementary schools with similar student demographics, we were rated in the top third of comparison schools throughout the entire state. High Lakes has an exceptional staff that is dedicated to academic rigor for all children, so that all may grow to their full potential.
The 2015-16 school year will be our third year as a digital conversion school. All 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students are issued iPads for access to academic curriculum and enrichment opportunities. It is our philosophy that technology can be a tool to help deepen a child's experiences in learning so they become a critical thinker, collaborator, communicator and creative individual. This next year we wil have a specialized technology instructor on staff three days per week helping teachers and students to utilize technology to its fullest capacity.
The parent community at High Lakes is committed to being an active part of their children's education. They provide an extaordinary amount of volunteer hours on behalf of all the children at High Lakes. We also have a wonderful PTA who provides many enriching activities throughout the school year.
High Lakes is truly a special place for children to grow and thrive. Please call or stop by anytime.
