Lisa Karnopp Nye
Born in Bend, Lisa grew up as a nationlly ranked downhill ski racer competing in the US Nationals and making the US Ski Team Junior Development Group. She was the OSAA Champion in SL, GS, and Combined. As a runner at MVHS she was State Champion at 1500M and XC. She is the only person to have won the IMC XC meet four years in a row. She was also a state champion windsurfer and a certified instructor. She spent many summers living in Hood River and windsurfing. She earned a scholarship to UO where she was a Pac-10 XC Champion and 3rd in the NCAA XC Championships, the highest UO finisher until 2011. She was a member of the UO Pac-10 Track Championship team and awarded an NCAA Academic and Athletic All-American. She ran professionally for Nike qualifying for three Olympic Trials. She competed for Team USA at the 1992 and 2001 World XC Championships. She was the 2001 US National Champion at 3000MSC setting an American Record. She competed in the 2001 Goodwill Games. She traveled throughout the world 1998 - 2004 and ranked top 10 in the world in 3000MSC. Since 1992 she has coached XC and track at Mountain View, Summit, and Bend. She teaches Social Studies at BHS. She has a BA in Journalism from UO, an MA in Urban and Regional Planning from UO and an MA in Teaching from GFU. Her son is a freshman at BHS, daughter is in second grade and husband Brad works at the Deschutes Land Trust.
