Greetings from the Athletic Department! I hope you and your families are doing great. It is time, once again, for our spring sports programs to begin. We start with an enthusiasm that is contagious. We, to this point, have had one of the most successful years, athletically, since moving to the 3A level in 1992.
In the fall, our football team finished second in the Sky-Em League and advanced to the second round of the state football playoffs losing to eventual state champion Astoria 49-15. Our volleyball team finished fourth (their best finish in the Sky-Em League) and won a league playoff match and came within one win of making the state playoffs! Girl's soccer won more league games than they ever have and Cross Country had a good group of younger athletes out and are building a program.
This winter our wrestlers finished third at district and second in league in dual meets. This past weekend they qualified six wrestlers for the state championships in Portland. Our girl's basketball team is currently ranked in the top ten and finished second in the Sky-Em League (highest finish ever) and will play at Henley on March 7th. Time will be announced when the final plans are made. Our boy's basketball team had more wins than they did the last two seasons combined and have closed the gap with other Sky-Em League teams in the past two seasons. Having played mostly juniors, we look for them to be much improved next season.
With this all said, we are looking forward to watching our young people play this spring. Please help us support them in a positive way and show the rest of the league, and state, what a great place La Pine is. We expect our fans, players, and coaches to be up for the challenge and to show great sportsmanship throughout the season. If you witness fans being unsportsmanlike, please let them know that this is not allowed in La Pine.
